Dishwasher Leak and Overflow Codes: Safe First Checks

Dishwasher leak codes can be urgent because water and electricity share the same appliance area. The first goal is to stop active water movement and document the condition.

Stop active leakage first

If water is escaping the appliance, cancel the cycle and shut off the water supply if you can reach the valve safely. Do not reach into standing water around live electrical connections.

A leak sensor code can remain after water reaches the base pan. Resetting repeatedly without finding the source can make diagnosis worse.

Visible checks before service

Check the door seal area, oversized dishes blocking spray, loose drain hose, sink connection, disposal knockout plug, and filter seating. These observations do not require opening the dishwasher cabinet.

If the floor is wet under cabinets or the code returns when the tub is empty, move from homeowner checks to service.

  • Look around the door lower edge and toe-kick area.
  • Confirm the filter is seated.
  • Check the sink or disposal connection for backup.
  • Watch whether the code appears during fill, wash, or drain.

Examples by brand

Samsung LC, LG AE, and Bosch E15 are common leak-related searches. They are not identical internally, but they share the same public safety posture: stop water, inspect visible conditions, then confirm model-specific steps.
